The English style of mustard originated in Durham in 1720 when a lady by the name of Mrs Clements invented a special recipe known as Durham Mustard. At one time there were three separate mustard factories in the city of Durham.
Durham University is the third oldest university in England and was established in 1832. The idea of a university for Durham was first suggested by Oliver Cromwell as early as 1650.
